The official promotional material for the satirical black comedy reveals an extensive physical transformation for Cruise, whose character navigates the aftermath of a global disaster.

Warner Bros. released the official trailer for "Digger" on July 13. Directed by Academy Award winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu, the film is described as a satirical black comedy centering on a global catastrophe and features Tom Cruise in the lead role. The release marks Iñárritu's first English-language feature since 2015's "The Revenant."

In the trailer, Cruise appears heavily altered through prosthetic makeup to portray Digger Rockwell, a character described by the studio as "the most powerful man in the world." Adopting a thick Southern accent and a visibly different physique, Cruise's character embarks on a campaign to establish himself as humanity's savior following an ecological disaster that he himself precipitated.

The production includes an extensive ensemble cast. John Goodman appears as the President of the United States, alongside Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons, Riz Ahmed, Michael Stuhlbarg, Sophie Wilde, Emma D'Arcy, Robert John Burke, and Burn Gorman. Warner Bros. has scheduled the film for an international theatrical release beginning September 30, 2026, with North American and IMAX screenings following on October 2.

Marketed with the tagline "a comedy of catastrophic proportions," the film attempts to address large-scale ecological and political crises through an absurdist framework. Early analysis indicates the film's premise—a self-proclaimed savior responding to a global disaster of his own making—will face careful scrutiny regarding its satirical intent. Observers note that the material has the potential to be interpreted as either an incisive critique or as dangerously tone-deaf, depending on its execution and reception within the current global climate.
