Two dead following shooting and major police operation in Offenburg
A man and a woman have died after shots were fired in a residential area of the German city, with authorities stating there is no broader threat to the public.

A major police operation is underway in the German city of Offenburg following a fatal shooting on Monday morning that left two people dead. The Offenburg police department initiated a large-scale response shortly before 8:00 a.m. local time after receiving emergency calls reporting gunfire in a residential area of the municipality.
Responding officers discovered a deceased man in the driveway of a residential building on Händelstraße, located roughly a mile and a half from the city's main train station. A woman found at the scene with severe injuries was treated by emergency medical personnel and transported to a local hospital, where she died shortly after. Law enforcement officials confirmed that a suspected weapon was recovered near the scene.
While the investigation is still in its early stages, police have indicated that the two victims knew each other and that there is currently no evidence pointing to the involvement of additional suspects. Authorities have reassured residents that there is no ongoing danger to the general public, though the immediate area remains cordoned off as forensics and criminal investigators continue to secure the site.
The abrupt violence has cast a sudden pall over the city, located on the edge of the Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg. For now, local rhythms have been halted as security personnel maintain their perimeters and work to clarify the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
