McDonald's is currently rolling out its latest round of highly anticipated limited-edition burgers, prompting long lines at drive-thrus and a surge in mobile app orders. While McDonald's continues to innovate in sustainable packaging and digital ordering to meet evolving consumer demands and environmental regulations, sometimes the craving hits when you want to skip the apps and the wrappers entirely. This recipe delivers that signature soft, salty, perfectly balanced double cheeseburger flavor at home, replicating the iconic fast-food staple with simple, everyday ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 4 soft seedless burger buns
  • 450g lean ground beef, divided into 8 small portions
  • 8 slices of American cheese
  • 1 white onion, very finely diced
  • 12 dill pickle slices
  • 2 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Method

  1. Lightly toast the burger buns in a dry skillet on medium heat until golden brown, then set aside.
  2. Heat a heavy cast-iron skillet or griddle until very hot. Place the beef portions onto the hot surface and smash them completely flat using a heavy spatula, then season generously with salt and black pepper.
  3. Cook the patties for 2 minutes until the edges are dark and crispy. Flip them, immediately place a slice of American cheese on each patty, and cook for another 1 minute.
  4. Build the burgers by spreading a thin layer of mustard and ketchup on the bottom buns, followed by a spoonful of finely diced raw onions and three pickle slices.
  5. Stack two cheese-topped patties on each burger and cover with the top bun.

This recipe makes four classic-style double cheeseburgers, best served immediately while the cheese is perfectly melted.
